Our ranking reveals which phones made the list based on their global sales figures.

Nokia 1100

And in the first place, Nokia’s 1100 model which was released in 2003 significantly transformed the world of mobile phones in the first decade of the twenty-first century. While it did not include any notable advancements when compared to its predecessors or phones from other companies, it did demonstrate one thing: mobile phones do not have to be expensive. The Nokia 1100 was incredibly economical, which helped to make the mobile phone a mass commodity. Not surprisingly, Nokia 1100 proved particularly popular in poorer, developing countries. During its six-year production run, it sold over 255 million units worldwide, making it the best-selling mobile phone in history.

Nokia 1110

Directly influenced by the success of the 1100, our number two spot goes to the Nokia 1110 model which offered some improved features compared to the 1100, including support for mp3 ringtones. However, the 1110 was largely comparable to the 1100. It was also low-cost, therefore it was aimed specifically at low-income households as well as low-income countries all over the world. Given that the Nokia 1110 was only manufactured for two years, from 2005 to 2007, its global sales figure of 250 million is even more astonishing than that of the 1100 model.

Apple iPhone 6

Coming in at Number 3 is Apple’s eighth-generation smartphone, the iPhone 6. During its manufacturing years of 2014 and 2016, it sold around 220 million units worldwide, making it the best-selling smartphone in history. It demonstrated that high-priced phones can also be highly popular. Released in 2014, it had considerably enhanced its camera quality, WiFi and LTE connectivity, as well as battery life.

Nokia 3210

At number 4, The Nokia 3210 became a huge success when it was released in 1999. However, the phone’s incredible battery life ensured Nokia sold more than 150 million units of this model.
