Android 3.0 is Here !

Android 3.0 Honeycomb – The Android OS for tablets is here!

Details are however still sketchy about the latest iteration of the android OS. However it has been confirmed that it would only be available on Tablets and not phones.

Already, Motorola has unveiled its Tablet christened “XOOM”. Expectedly, it is being powered by Android 3.0, the first device to do so. Below are the specs;

Nvidia Tegra 2 / 1Ghz / Dual Core
1GB DDR 2
10.1 widescreen display (10:16) / 1280 x 800
32GB onboard / SD Card support (after software update)
Front (2MP) and rear facing camera (5MP) / 720p video recording
headphones /
Wifi 2,4Ghz & 5Ghz 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR + HID, 3G (upgradable to 4G LTE)
micro USB / 3.5mm audio
gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer and adaptive lighting
lasts for 10hrs video playback
Android 3.0 Honeycomb / Standard Dock / Speaker Dock / Case / Flash Player 10.1 / SIM Card Slot

LG has also announced its Tablet called G-Slate, also being powered by Android 3.0. This was, however, not displayed at the CES.

I’m beginning to drool already.

Tentatively, the released date for the Motorola XOOM has been fixed for February 14th. More information would be posted as they come in.

It has been confirmed that Apple has, again, decided to do it alone. They are not being represented at the CES 2011. It is expected that the ipad 2 would be unveiled at a later date very soon.
