With this write-up, we conclude our series on Virtualization.

To toggle between full screen and minimized screen in Virtualbox, you press the key combination RIGHT CTRL-F. But by default, your Ubuntu installation can not be displayed at full screen without the installation of VIRTUALBOX GUEST ADDITION. This software improves the performance of Guest OSes and introduces features like seamless mouse integration between Host and Guest PC and improved screen resolutions.

Unfortunately, the process of installing the Guest Addition is not very straight forward but, as usual, if you follow my lead, you can’t go wrong.

STEP 1

Preferrably, resize your virtual Guest screen to a smaller size. Press Right Ctrl-F to do this.

Click on DEVICES then CD/DVD DEVICES. Ensure no item is ticked in the right menu options.

Then, click on INSTALL GUEST ADDITION.

STEP 2

Click on PLACES within the Ubuntu OS. Ensure there is an option for VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.6_63112

STEP 3

At this point, i recommend you reboot Ubuntu.

On boot-up, you would notice an icon on your desktop, this is important.

STEP 4

Within the Ubuntu OS, click on APPLICATIONS, ACCESSORIES, then TERMINAL.

The following screen will be displayed.

STEP 5

Type the following into the screen. NOTE: They are case sensitive.

cd /media/VBOXADDITIONS_3.2.6_63112 (Press ENTER)

sudo bash ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run (Press ENTER)

TIP: While typing the above commands, press the TAB key intermittently, it will auto fill.

There would be a password prompt. Fill it in.

A whole lot of gibberish would come on screen, wait it out. It would be through in a few minutes.

Reboot Ubuntu and press RIGHT CTRL-F to view your Ubuntu at full screen.
